WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO CELEBRATE BEING FAB OVER 40?
I was about to make a career shift, ending a lengthy employment period and moving into something new. I wanted to mark it, celebrate it, celebrate me. I felt good about what I’d achieved (this move was hard!) I wanted to see my age as something celebrated and this project was key in helping me do that.
WHAT DID YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE?
The boudoir shoot was outside my comfort zone, for sure, but Michele made the experience feel like the most natural thing. It was liberating and fun and maybe even a little badass. Also, because I’d committed the time to be there in her studio, I could focus on being so present – nowhere else to be, nothing else to do. The absolute best thing about the day was how much we laughed.
HOW HAS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR BODY CHANGED
I used to be so self-conscious. When I turned 40, I enrolled in a body boot camp class… it was hard at first but I got strong, really strong. I started to feel really good about my body and less self-conscious. What I really loved was that unanticipated mind shift..
WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED TO APPRECIATE MORE AS YOU
I appreciate time more – the time spent with my son, with friends, family and chosen family. I notice more the times between times, if that makes sense, like the quiet house in the dark of the early morning, the moments walking through a beautiful courtyard. I guess that’s appreciating the journey as much as the destination.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU LIKE TO OFFER OTHER WOMEN?
Be kind, give yourself grace when you need it and a push when you need that too. Be exactly who you are and never be afraid to speak your truth.
